Our work in the wider community

Leprosy mission

Every two minutes, someone is diagnosed with leprosy. That's more than 200,000 new cases a year. Although it is curable, millions of people worldwide are living with the effects of the disease, from physical disability to mental health problems, poverty and discrimination.

Leprosy mission is a global Christian organisation leading the fight against leprosy. Following Jesus Christ, they seek to bring about transformation; breaking the chains of leprosy and empowering people to attain healing, dignity and life in all its fullness.

Project Ruth

Project Ruth is a UK based charity that supports children and their families in Romania and Moldova. It all began in a very small way back in 1992. A visiting speaker to Providence Baptist Church in Ferentari, a very rundown and poor area of Bucharest, challenged the Sunday morning congregation to provide some help and support to the Roma street children outside the gates of the church.

A large school was built about 10 years ago not far away from the church. Today there are 175 students; 70% of the students go to the further education or training. Many of the students are the first in their family to read and write, to gain qualifications, or to get paid employment.

Over 2,000 children have been educated, cared for, and loved by those involved in the project.

InHope

We support a  Christian charity based in Bristol, inHope which, since the 1980s, ha have worked with local churches, volunteers, and businesses.  Their collective vision is to build communities where everybody can reach their God-given potential, free from injustice and insecurity.

Over the decades they have helped countless numbers of people overcome the insecurities of homelessness, hunger, addiction, and poor mental health, which are often caused by the injustices of insufficient housing, limited access to food, poor employment, discrimination, and abuse.

One of the most important areas of help is to offer personal support - enabling people to feel heard, to be accepted, and to receive the appropriate help they need to move on from their immediate crisis situation.

The Waffle Hub

The Waffle Hub Community Café is a registered charity based at Burnham-On-Sea Methodist Church in College Street.

It has grown since its opening, in September 2022, from a simple cafe serving freshly-cooked waffles to holding a Digital Cafe, and offering community cookery classes, to becoming a community hub for locals and hosting a new Burnham-On-Sea Repair Cafe .

The cafe is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am-5pm.

Open Doors

Every day, millions of Christians risk their lives to follow Jesus. In more than 70 countries, Open Doors supports them by supplying Bibles, providing emergency relief and helping persecuted believers stand strong for the long-term. In the UK and Ireland, Open Doors helps the church to pray, give and speak out for those who share our faith but not our freedom.
